Help! My insurance company is sending me for a medical exam. What do I do?

Insurance companies sometimes have you examined to try to cut off your PIP (personal injury protection) benefits

Q: My insurance company is asking me to go to an IME (Independent Medical Exam). What should I do?

A: Contact a lawyer. Usually, the only reason an IME is requested by your insurer is to give your insurer an excuse to stop paying for your medical treatment. Not always, but often, the IME doctor will determine that your injuries are either healed and don’t require more treatment or are not related to the accident (but rather to a preexisting condition, for example). The obligation to undergo an IME is part of most insurance policies, in other words, the insurer has a right to ask for an IME, but KB Law can advise you as to how to prepare, or in some situations even not to attend, depending on the circumstances. Again, this is a time when having a good lawyer is a very good idea, as most people are not aware of their rights concerning IMEs. KB Law can help you deal with the insurance company and protect your rights.
